Holloween Party

at school today!  Of course when I purchased Jonathon's costume last year, I picked one out that he would be able to wear for a couple of years ~ or so I thought.  Yes his costume still fits, but he does not like it this year ~ and I didn't anticipate glasses ~ he does not like his costume because of his glasses.  So he wore his costume like this........

"Huh"  Wonder what Jonathon is?????

And then Jonathon frosted a cupcake

Concentrating very hard

And then Jonathon ate his cupcake!  Which is great because last year he wouldn't eat cupcakes.

Then I begged and pleaded for a "quick" picture of his WHOLE costume and some proof that the cupcake was good.....

Hurry up mom

Then we went out into the hall to see what games they had.  P.T. (Miss Jen) let the teachers borrow her stomp it game.  Jonathon really likes this game and enjoyed showing mommy how to play....  You put a bean bag on one end and then stomp your foot and the bean bag flies up and you are supposed to catch it ~ he didn't catch it, but he did good stomping it ~ my camera was just too slow to catch him......

stomp like this

see mom "like this"
Then when we were getting ready to leave school we ran into Rylee ~ she is in the other preschool room (typically developing) and Jonathon and her decided to have a playdate ~ so we invited Rylee back to our house....

Best Friends

Sharing

We had a great day ~ enjoyed the Halloween Party at school and made lots of fun things ~ got some candy ~ tried M & M's for the first time(and yes Lori, I let him - ha ha) ~ and yes he likes them a lot ~ and so does mommy.... We had lots of fun this afternoon visiting with Rylee and Rylee's mommy Nik ~ Thanks for coming over to hang out ~ can't wait until next time!

IEPT Meeting

I went to Jonathon's IEPT meeting last Friday.

Gross motor he tested a 6 out of 10(you should be anywhere from a range of 8-12).

Fine motor he tested a 6 out of 10(should be anywhere from a range of 8-12).

For Receptive Communication he scored low - follows 3 or more familiar verbal commands(0), responds to the prepositions out and on(0), understands the simple possessive forms your and my(0).

Expressive communication he score low - uses 2 word utterances to express meaningful  relationships(0), uses words to express what he or she sees and does and to express the experiences that immediately affect him or her(0), uses 3 word phrases meaningfully(0), uses the pronouns I, you, and me(0), uses words to relate information about other people, their actions, or their experiences(0), responds yes or no appropriately(0).

Gross Motor - walks up and down stairs without assistance.(0), jumps forward with both feet together(0), walks forward 2 or more steps on a line on the floor, alternating feet(1), walk down stairs without assistance, alternating feet(0), imitates the bilateral movements of an adult(0), bends over and touches the floor with both hands(0).

Fine Motor - uses pads of fingertips to grasp pencil(1), string 4 large beads(0), holds paper with one hand while drawing or writing with the other hand(1), fastens clothing without assistance(0), wiggles his or her thumb in bending, circular, and back and forth movements(0), traces designs with curved edges(0).

Reasoning and Academic Skills - matches colors(0), responds to one and one more(1), names the colors red, green, and blue(1), identifies sources of common actions(0), gives three objects on request(0), finds comical, unexpected, or unusual events humorous(1), identifies the larger of 2 numbers(0), completes learning tasks having 2 or more steps without assistance(0), answers simple logic questions(0)

Perception and Concepts - identifies familiar objects by their use(0), sorts by color with demonstration(0), identifies big and little shapes(0)

Perceptual Motor - stacks 8 cubes vertically(0), copies a circle(0), copies a cross(0), copies the letters V, H, and T(0).

Attention and Memory- selects the hand hiding a toy(0), attends to a learning task or story in a small group for 5 minutes(1), recites memorized lines from books, poems, television shows, or songs(0), locates hidden items in a picture scene(0), focuses his attention on one task while being aware of, but not distracted by, surrounding activities(1), recalls familiar objects(0), repeats 3 digit sequences(0).

Now when they pick a day to do testing your child may not be in a "testing mood" therefore the test will not be 100% accurate, but there really isn't anything anyone can do about it.  Some questions they are only allowed to ask once ~ so if your child does not cooperate ~ the test will not be 100% accurate ~ some questions they may ask 3 times, but its the same scenario in the end ~ so as a parent you must remember these rules and not get discouraged if your child is marked low on something that you know he or she is capable of doing.  They will just catch it on the next testing day.

Jonathon tested very well on alot of his testing ~ I just wanted to share what we will be working on next and maybe it will help a family out to see what is ahead if their child is younger than 3.  I have learned alot from other families this way and I just want to do my part in "paying it forward."  and sharing this info with my family so they are aware of what is happening over this way.

Jonathon graduated out of P.T. and O.T. last November 09.  He will now be getting P.T. and O.T. services once again and will remain getting speech services.  It is not that he forgot anything, it is just that now it's time to learn how to jump, skip etc and write, string beads and these services will help him (and mommy- so mommy can help him)  to continue to grow and be the best that he can be!

And I am always amazed at these tests ~ for example ~ who would think to have your child copy the letters V, H, and T?? ~ bend over and touch the floor with both hands ~ wiggle your thumb in bending circular motion???  I have learned not to get discouraged ~ to just go with the flow ~ and all will be conquered in the end!

Flu Shot

Yesterday afternoon I took all 3 boys to get flu shots.  Jonathon has received a flu shot every year that he was supposed too.  Andrew and Kenny have not had a flu shot since they were toddlers.......Why now get a flu shot?  Well because 1.  Dr. Pediatrician recommended it this year ~ he explained with Jonathon going to preschool full time and the big brothers in school that it would be in my best interest to get all 3 of them done this year.  I then asked " what about the H1N1?"  Which in return he answered "It's in the flu shot this year"  Okay then.  2.  The flu just went through my house.  It was not extremely dangerous, but it made me think....what if it had been the swine flu.....Jonathon had the flu  ~ he ran a high temp ~ had diarrhea ~ he had some vomiting.   While Jonathon was going through all of that I started not feeling well, but ignored it and continued to take care of him.  His started Friday Oct 9th, by Tuesday Oct 12th I started feeling bad.  By Friday October 15th Jonathon was all better and Kenny came home with the flu ~ Kenny had a severe sore throat, low low temp(95) congested and achy.  By Saturday afternoon I had the flu.  Kenny started feeling better by Monday Oct 18th, but I kept him home and took him to the Dr. on Tuesday. Dr. confirmed he was all better.  I still did not feel well so I went to the Dr. on Tuesday also. Flu gone, but have a sinus infection. 3. We were very sick for about 2 weeks at my house.  I don't want to go through that again ~ so I guess if I can help prevent it by getting flu shots ~ then we will get flu shots.

Andrew and Kenny are home today.  Kenny does not feel well. Headache, achy arm and stomach ache.  Andrew just doesn't feel well and achy arm.  From getting flu shot.  Hopefully they will feel better later today.

Jonathon went to school like a good boy.  He seems to be doing just fine and no reaction at all to the shot. (Hooray).

I do have piece of mind today though knowing that my boys are protected now.

Now I just have to get my flu shot and hopefully talk my hubby into getting his done also.  But I am a little worried now that I will have a reaction like my big boys ~ I don't want to get the flu shot and then end up sick.  This has been my main reason of never getting it done before.  I know I will still get it done though.  Just waiting for my Dr. office to get it in.

Better Day

Picked Jonathon up from school today and his nose looked a little better, but I am still not too happy about it.  I feel that I should not have to find a warm washcloth and fix my sons nose after school.

I had a Dr. appt. to go too, so luckily I had antibacterial wipes in the van to clean him up before we went to my appt.

Does it really take that much out of your day to grab a Kleenex?

When I confronted the teacher about it this morning she said "oooh I didn't even notice, sorry"

Come on!  "REALLY"

Flu is still at our house!

Jonathon is better as of Friday Oct 15.  But I still was not feeling the best and then my middle child(Kenny- 13) came home from school Friday not feeling well and went right to bed.  By Saturday morning Kenny and I both were running fevers of 95-96.  Scary!  It took me most of the day to get Kenny up and then I spent from 9:30p.m. til 3 a.m. trying to get that kids temp up to at least 97.  Electric blanket, bed buddy, and about 5 more blankets piled on top.  Nothing was working and I was really getting scared.  I made him drink apple juice and that helped some.  I finally laid down to get some rest after 3a.m.

On Sunday Kenny's temp was up a little and he starting feeling better.  Other symptoms we had were bad headache, congestion, slight cough and sore throat.  Extremely hot, but temp low.  Have no clue.  I started feeling a little better last night, but not 100% yet.  Today my temp is still low, about 97 and I just feel blah.  Kenny seems to be doing better.  He is holding a temp about 98.3-98.4.  I am glad.

Anyway, I let Jonathon go back to school.  He is on Claritin for a runny nose and little cough.  BUT his nose is not running down his face.  So I was a little pissed when I picked him up from school a few minutes ago and he looked like this

Really?

It's kind of hard to see, but if you look closely you can see all of the dried snot on his face under and around his nostrils and all the way over to his cheek.  I will approach the teachers about this tomorrow.  I should have today, but I was too sick to approach them.  Needless to say I am not happy and think this is uncalled for.  There is 2 teachers to 6 students.......You couldn't get my child a Kleenex???????

Here we Sit.....

waiting to see Dr. Pediatrician for a recheck!  Jonathon is feeling much better, but still has a slight cough and a runny nose so I wanted him checked out before he returns to school on Monday.

We seen Dr. Pediatrician and he confirmed that Jonathon is doing much much better.  He now needs to start back up on his Claritin 1x per day at bedtime for the next week.  If he is still having problems we will have to go back to Dr. Pediatrician.  And he is released to go back to school on Monday.  He will be so happy, he really enjoys going to school and with mommy not feeling well he hasn't had anyone to play with.

I have a script to get some replacement parts for his nebulizer ~ another script to go get blood work done when he is feeling better to check his platelet count .

waiting patiently for his turn

Now we just need to get mommy better!!

Not much

happening when you have a little boy that has the flu!  I swear I have gone through a whole box of Kleenex today alone. His nose is just running non-stop today.

Over all he is not too grumpy though ~ it's been a movie day for us ~ 101 Dalmations ~ over ~ and over ~ and over!

He has to do his breathing treatments morning and night for the next 3 days.  He was not too pleased with this, he has not used his machine in over 1 year.

Fever is gone ~ for good I hope.  Vomiting never really happened ~ thank goodness.  We only had 1 day of diarrhea which overall wasn't too bad.  Now if I could just get him to eat better, things would look better.

I pulled him out of school for the entire week and had to email the teacher to change our  IEPT meeting that is scheduled for  Friday.   I haven't heard anything back so I hope they reschedule.

And before I got a chance to finish this post, he now has a low temp again!  I know it's because his head is just jammed up, my poor baby. He is asleep now and I hope he gets a good nights sleep and starts feeling better tomorrow.

I need to get him better so he can get into the dr. pediatrician to get his shots for winter.

Buddy Walk 2010 (St. Clair County Down Syndrome Support Group)

Jonathon came down with a fever Friday night of 103 and our walk was scheduled for Saturday at 1p.m.  With lots of prayers, medicine and warm rags to bring fever down, he was able to walk on Saturday.  Then we rushed him back home to rest.  Took him to Dr. Pediatrician this morning and he has the flu! (Poor "Team Fishy Cracker"'s captain did the walk with the flu this year.)

We raised $3,245.00 and had the honor of winning Grand Marshall again this year!!  We also added some more members to our team bringing our numbers up from 22 to 40 team members this year.  It was a beautiful day out for our walk with the temperatures in the 70's.

We have an awesome team and we are very thankful for all the love, support and donations that we received this year!
