Swimming Cancelled

again!

Jonathon has a virus and he did not sleep well again last night.  This morning his nose was very green/yellow goop and he has a cough and just sounds terrible and his eye is running.  So I kept him home.

And today is supposed to be swim day.  I didn't have to call and cancel because I got the call first.  The pool was shut down.  I am beginning to think swimming at Woodlands is not going to happen anymore.

I guess I am a little anxious and just want him to finish learning so bad.  He just loves the water.  I do not swim.  I do not like the water except for in my own pool in my back yard.  I love the beach, but I stay out of the water.  I want Jonathon to enjoy the water all his life and not be afraid like me.  He is almost there......I am so excited for him to become a full swimmer.

And I would love for him to compete in swimming when he gets older.

But for now.....no swimming.

Summer will be here soon though!

Sick or not

Jonathon went bowling on Sunday.  All was fine.

Jonathon went to school on Monday.  All was fine.

Swimming was cancelled on Monday again!  Swim teacher now sick.

Tuesday...Jonathon woke up with a temp.  Only 100.1 but still a temp.  He stayed home.

Wednesday Jonathon went back to school.  All not fine.

He does not have a temp.  He sounds like he has a cold.  He keeps grabbing his nose and squishing it.  When he does this the sides get stuck in and then pop out.  He sounds really congested.

I put him in the shower tonight and after we got out he was able to blow his nose and get the gunk out.

Now.....here is my thinking...

Did Jonathon possibly finally lose his ear tubes?  He just got over a Sinus infection too.  Sinus infections and sick all the time is the reason he has tubes.

So I am trying to keep him as healthy as I can until Friday.  Friday is his ENT appointment.  I am kind of hoping those tubes are missing, then I will at least know why all of a sudden he is getting sick.

Finally on the Mend

Jonathon came down with a cold on Feb 4 and by Feb 11th he had gotten worse.

He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a sinus infection and put on amoxicillin.  His poor head....his poor nose....he just couldn't breathe and his nose was running goop non stop.  By Monday I was a little irritated and called the dr. back thinking maybe he was immune to amoxicillin and needed something different like the zpac.  The nurse spoke with the dr. and I was told to stick it out a few more days.  ok. irritated but o.k.

So on Monday I let him watch movies and tried to keep him down and quiet.  He napped for a long time and then went to bed later than usual.  And of course was still up by 5:30a.m.  Why this child is on the new time change is beyond me!  I literally hate mornings now.  I get up and take him back to his bed. Tuck him in. Grab a blanket and climb in with him and pull the cord on his blue puppy that plays a lullaby and try to get him back to sleep.  Of course this usually does not work and mommy is the one almost asleep when I get a "mom" very quiet and a tap on the head or side of the face.  I say "What?"  he says "up?"  No!  And we go through this until 6:30a.m. when I finally let him up and our day starts and I am EXHAUSTED!!!!!

I let him stay home again today hoping that it would be a better day.  And it was.  I didn't have to touch his nose until tonight at bedtime, but that was a false alarm.  It is finally drying up and he is finally breathing better.  Now tomorrow he has an eye check up appt so I am going to keep him home from school again.  I might just keep him home all week because Thursday is his last day.  I want him to heal and not turn around and come down with something else.  Today we watched Shrek and Incredibles and of course Fast and Furious.....well because he loves cars!  He ate a little better today and seemed happier.

I am glad he is on the mend.

Sick

Jonathon has been wonderful so far this winter.  Just a runny nose a couple of times.  Not this time.  It started last Saturday with a runny nose.  Figured he caught something from being out in the weather for Grandpa's funeral so I put him on Benedryl.  Last night it became worse and by this morning at 5a.m. the boy was blowing his nose(hooray he can actually blow his nose) non stop.  Like 30 Kleenex by 6:30a.m. so off to the dr. we went at 11a.m.

Congested, drainage, sinus.....on amoxicillin...Good news is that his lungs are clear.  So....

Have to cancel swimming again this week.....oh well

I hope after one dose of amoxicillin he sleeps better tonight because mommy is  T i r e d ! ! !  and would love to sleep past 3a.m.

Home Again

Poor Jonathon!

Last week on Monday ~ big brother Kenny stubbed his toe on the wooden movie cabinet in the hallway and by Wednesday we had to take him into the doctors to get checked out.

Monday there was not any school for us.  Tuesday Jonathon went to school.  Wednesday Jonathon stayed home from school because he did not sleep well Tuesday night. He was up and down all night and then slept in and missed school.  So we decided to take Kenny in and see what was broke if anything.

We spent the morning at the pediatricians with Kenny and then we dropped Kenny off at noon and headed to the city to see the new Dentist.  Long long day for Jonathon.  Then we find out that Kenny needed to go to the orthopedic specialist on Thursday morning at 8:15a.m. which meant another day of no school for Jonathon.  I didn't have any way for him to get there or get picked up because I would be in the city with Kenny.

And now to today.  I started getting Jonathon dressed and he felt warm.  So I took his temp.  And he has a low temp.  Not that big of a deal except for he normally is at 98.6 and he is at 99.5 so I kept him home again.

Which I am glad that I did because he is not playing.  He is lounging around.  And watching his new Bambi movie.  I hope with rest today that he is better tomorrow.  I don't want him sick again, but He has been in alot of different public places lately.

Pediatrician (2) New Dentist (1) xray office (2) and orthopedic Dr. (1).  YIKES

And Kenny is o.k.  Broken toe ~ little toe ~ using buddy tape. go back in 2 weeks.

Sick Again

This has been a rough winter for us.  It seems like I just get Jonathon better and send him back to school and then he is back home sick again.  And it seems to always happen on a Thursday......

On Thursday we picked Kenny up from school to go to the dentist office for a cleaning.  All went well there.  Then we decided to make a quick run to Chesterfield to pick up a couple of flannels from JC Penny that were on sale for $4.97 before lunch.  And we did.  And I saved $75.00 on 2 flannels for Kenny and 1 long sleeve shirt for Jonathon.

Then we went to lunch at McDonalds.  Jonathon had a Cheeseburger Happy Meal with fries and a pop(orange hi c).  But then he didn't want his cheeseburger or pop and only had a few fries so I knew something was up.  I thought maybe he was just tired.

So we went home.  And I took his temp.  Of course.... He was at 102..Darn it anyway!

So this is how we spent our weekend....

A much happier healthier Jonathon again!!

Trip to the Doctor

this morning.  Jonathon has been sick since last Thursday.  Over the weekend he developed a high fever, snotty yucky nose, and extremely bad cough.

He isn't drinking like he usually does and eating is minimal.

Diagnosed viral infection ~ he is on Zithromax for 5 days.....if I don't' see him getting better by Wednesday then we have to call Dr. Pediatrician back.  Let's just hope this works.

He is resting!

Later this evening mommy has to go out ~ It's our very first meeting of 2011 for "St. Clair County Down Syndrome Support Group"  I can't wait to find out what is in store for this year.  I wonder if we will have another Buddy Walk ~ there has been rumors that we might not this year.  Which will be sad because our team "TEAM FISHY CRACKER" raised over $3,000.  And I get to pick up Jonathon's I.D. bracelet that was ordered a while ago.

Had a good run.....

while it lasted......being healthy that is.

First off at school there are a few students that are home with the flu/colds and some that are still in class coughing up a storm.

On Wednesday afternoon we went and picked up Rylee and her mom and headed out to do some shopping.  Our first stop was Sams Club.  We were actually in and out pretty quick so we decided to drive on down the road to McDonalds and let the kids get lunch.

After McDonalds we headed across the street to the local mall to hang out for awhile.  We actually separated and Rylee was going to go to the main play area and Jonathon and I were going to go to JC Penney to return some jeans.  After I finished in JC Penney, we headed down to Victoria Secret and who do I find......Rylee and her mom, they never made it to the play area!  Jonathon and I finished up in Victoria Secret and headed out for a walk to find the restroom. We finished in the restroom and headed back to find our friends.  Who by the way were still at Victoria Secret!  silly girls....

Finally we met back up and Rylee still wanted to go to the play area, but I said "No to Jonathon going".  I explained how I just was not ready for "germs"  that Jonathon has been doing great and I didn't want to take the chance of him catching something.  Nik understood and went alone with Rylee.

So we decided to do some P.T. while we were waiting.  I got Jonathon out of his stroller and let him walk next to me.  Trying to teach Jonathon to walk without looking at his feet.  For some reason when we are out of the house he feels the need to look at the ground while he is walking.  Drives me crazy!!!!  He actually did really really well once he discovered that there was pictures on the wall that he could look and walk at the same time.

So we headed back over to Rylee and they were just getting ready to go and we headed for home....oh we had to stop on the way out for a cookie first - thanks Nik!!  Jonathon loves his cookies....and then we headed home.

Both kids fell asleep on the way home.  Exhausted from their busy day.

After we dropped off Nik and Rylee, we had about a 7 min. ride to get home.  I was almost home when Jonathon coughed/gagged...as I am thinking.....oh no....you were fine.....don't tell me you are coming down with something.....especially after I said no play area.....

We got home, he seemed ok, besides that he was tired.  12a.m. Thursday morning he woke up barking......GREAT!  and a low fever!  So we skipped school and went to see the Dr.  He wasn't really coughing and he was fever was gone.  I was told to just push fluids and if its croup, he will be better in a few days.  Thursday was pretty good day.  He ate and played like he always does and didn't even really cough.

This morning.....not so good.....Woke up with a low fever, coughing more today, lying around watching his Cars movie.  Few minutes ago asked him if he would like to try some yogurt and he said yes.   Bad idea, after 3 bites it all came back up....guess his tummy doesn't want that.  But he did make it to the bathroom and to the toilet - so no accidents.  And now after he vomited he is still quiet, but he is off the couch and wandering around some.

So it doesn't matter how much you try to protect your child, sometimes they still get sick.  Because it's just in the air, or at school.  I will continue to do the best that I can though.  And yes that might mean - no public play area - because I know they are not cleaned like they should be. (sorry Rylee).

And this is how the day Started

Earlier this week I was notified that a child in Jonathon's class has Impetigo.  I was really hoping Jonathon would not end up sick.  No such luck.

Thursday afternoon he woke up from his nap crying.  He was extremely hot so I took his temp.  102!  Darn it!  For the rest of the afternoon and evening he was miserable.  I couldn't get him to eat and barely drink.  He screamed taking his Tylenol so I pretty well assumed he had a bad sore throat.  Then the vomiting started.  Which was nothing but dry heaves and a little bit of phlegm because without eating or drinking he didn't have anything in his system.  And his poor little tummy was gurgling and he was gassy.

I stuck him back in a pull up just in case he had an accident and he pretty well just laid in bed and watched movies and slept off and on.

He did make it all night with no accidents.  I had to rush him off to the bathroom a few times in the middle of the night so he could vomit though.  Poor baby.  I hate it when he gets so sick.

So I called the doc first thing this morning and got him in.  It's not Impetigo.  Thank goodness.  He has strep throat.  Thats why he was vomiting and running a fever.  Makes me think back a few more days.  On Wednesday night I knew something was wrong.  He was snoring ~ he never snores.  He kept smacking his tongue around his mouth like he was thirsty.  He usually only does this if he is thirsty or cold.  But I didn't want to disturb him so I didn't wake him for a drink and he was covered so I knew he was not cold.  But I still knew something was off.

When he woke up Thursday he was fine though so I didn't think anything of it.  I should have trusted my instincts.  I will know for next time.

We went out and got amoxicillin for the strep and Pedialyte for him to drink from vomiting so much.  I picked up some more jello to make him.  Chocolate pudding and juice.  I also bought some pasta noodles and 6 cheeses sauce to make him for dinner ~ he loves it and I knew he was hungry.

He did eat some noodles for dinner along with some orange jello.  Drank a little bit of his pedialyte.... some fruit juice and some flavored water.  Off to bed he went at 6:10p.m. and is now resting.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

Better Day

Picked Jonathon up from school today and his nose looked a little better, but I am still not too happy about it.  I feel that I should not have to find a warm washcloth and fix my sons nose after school.

I had a Dr. appt. to go too, so luckily I had antibacterial wipes in the van to clean him up before we went to my appt.

Does it really take that much out of your day to grab a Kleenex?

When I confronted the teacher about it this morning she said "oooh I didn't even notice, sorry"

Come on!  "REALLY"

Flu is still at our house!

Jonathon is better as of Friday Oct 15.  But I still was not feeling the best and then my middle child(Kenny- 13) came home from school Friday not feeling well and went right to bed.  By Saturday morning Kenny and I both were running fevers of 95-96.  Scary!  It took me most of the day to get Kenny up and then I spent from 9:30p.m. til 3 a.m. trying to get that kids temp up to at least 97.  Electric blanket, bed buddy, and about 5 more blankets piled on top.  Nothing was working and I was really getting scared.  I made him drink apple juice and that helped some.  I finally laid down to get some rest after 3a.m.

On Sunday Kenny's temp was up a little and he starting feeling better.  Other symptoms we had were bad headache, congestion, slight cough and sore throat.  Extremely hot, but temp low.  Have no clue.  I started feeling a little better last night, but not 100% yet.  Today my temp is still low, about 97 and I just feel blah.  Kenny seems to be doing better.  He is holding a temp about 98.3-98.4.  I am glad.

Anyway, I let Jonathon go back to school.  He is on Claritin for a runny nose and little cough.  BUT his nose is not running down his face.  So I was a little pissed when I picked him up from school a few minutes ago and he looked like this

Really?

It's kind of hard to see, but if you look closely you can see all of the dried snot on his face under and around his nostrils and all the way over to his cheek.  I will approach the teachers about this tomorrow.  I should have today, but I was too sick to approach them.  Needless to say I am not happy and think this is uncalled for.  There is 2 teachers to 6 students.......You couldn't get my child a Kleenex???????

Here we Sit.....

waiting to see Dr. Pediatrician for a recheck!  Jonathon is feeling much better, but still has a slight cough and a runny nose so I wanted him checked out before he returns to school on Monday.

We seen Dr. Pediatrician and he confirmed that Jonathon is doing much much better.  He now needs to start back up on his Claritin 1x per day at bedtime for the next week.  If he is still having problems we will have to go back to Dr. Pediatrician.  And he is released to go back to school on Monday.  He will be so happy, he really enjoys going to school and with mommy not feeling well he hasn't had anyone to play with.

I have a script to get some replacement parts for his nebulizer ~ another script to go get blood work done when he is feeling better to check his platelet count .

waiting patiently for his turn

Now we just need to get mommy better!!

Not much

happening when you have a little boy that has the flu!  I swear I have gone through a whole box of Kleenex today alone. His nose is just running non-stop today.

Over all he is not too grumpy though ~ it's been a movie day for us ~ 101 Dalmations ~ over ~ and over ~ and over!

He has to do his breathing treatments morning and night for the next 3 days.  He was not too pleased with this, he has not used his machine in over 1 year.

Fever is gone ~ for good I hope.  Vomiting never really happened ~ thank goodness.  We only had 1 day of diarrhea which overall wasn't too bad.  Now if I could just get him to eat better, things would look better.

I pulled him out of school for the entire week and had to email the teacher to change our  IEPT meeting that is scheduled for  Friday.   I haven't heard anything back so I hope they reschedule.

And before I got a chance to finish this post, he now has a low temp again!  I know it's because his head is just jammed up, my poor baby. He is asleep now and I hope he gets a good nights sleep and starts feeling better tomorrow.

I need to get him better so he can get into the dr. pediatrician to get his shots for winter.

Sickness confirmed

Jonathon has Roseola!  But I have been very lucky this time around.  The highest his fever got yesterday was 100.7.  His rash was on his inner arms, outer arms and neck and partway down his back.

This morning he has no temp ~ the rash is barely noticeable ~ he is eating and playing again ~ and he is drinking like normal today also.  he will remain contagious until the rash is gone.

I asked Dr. Peditrician if this was airborne ~ no ~ he got it from someone coughing near him ~ runny nose near him ~ someone had it and gave it to him.

Now there is this one particular little boy at school that spends more time outside of school being sick than actually being at school.  He has taken a liking to Jonathon for some reason.  He wants to hold Jonathon's hand all the time.  He wants to hug on Jonathon all the time.  And I have worried about this much contact.  And I don't know if he got it from this particular child, but he has not been anywhere except school.  Except for Thursday afternoon, we went to the park and to McDonalds.  Soooo not sure where he got it.

And the reason I said "I got lucky this time around"  When Kenny was a baby (under 1) he got Roseola.  He had a high temp of 104 that we had a hard time getting down.  It was very scary and he was very sick.  He also burst his eardrum from the fever.  We made it through that and he recovered just fine, but I am so glad that I did not have to go through that with Jonathon.  I am glad he had a mild case.

We have school on Monday and field trip on Tuesday so I hope he is better by then!

Sick little boy

So last night Jonathon woke up needing to go to the bathroom and well lets just say we almost made it ~ but not quite ~ my poor(baby)big boy was almost on toilet and he exploded.  I am very proud of him that he woke up and actually made it that far ~ definitely not his fault.

We stayed in bathroom for about 15 min til he was finished and I cleaned up.  The whole time I am thinking "ok, did he have bad McDonalds", did he catch something at McDonalds, did he catch something at the park, did I remember to wash his hands after everything, maybe he just had an upset stomach.........

This morning he woke up and seemed o.k.  Daddy took him in to go potty and then I got up and took him from daddy to go find his underwear for the day ~ when I took his hand it felt warm ~ I then touched his arm and head ~ yep warm ~ go get thermometer and yes he has a low grade temp ~ got him some juice and let him climb up on couch to watch t.v.

Usually Jonathon eats right away with his brothers before they go off to school ~ not today ~ he did not eat breakfast until 8:30a.m. and it was only yogurt ~ he is still on his first cup of juice ~ he is not playing ~ he is laying around ~ he is being quiet `~ I was kinda hoping that maybe he had 2yr. molars coming in and nothing else ~ now I am not so sure.

I had to make a couple of phone calls and when I was finished I went over to tell him how I was happy and thankful that he was a good boy and remained quiet when I noticed he has a rash.
So I begin to look him over and he has a rash on the back of his neck partway down his back ~ on the insides of his arms ~ and on his cheeks.  So I called the dr. and even though he is doublebooked I am taking Jonathon in this afternoon(the receptionist tried giving me her diagnosis) umm don't care, you are not the dr.  So we will go and wait our turn at 3:30p.m.

Hopefully it's nothing major, but seems how it's the weekend I need to know.
I really hate the E.R. and don't want to end up there.

Miserable Little Boy

Is this the look of a child coming down with SOMETHING?

SOMETHING is happening~possibly sinus infection? Went to see doctor. Doctor says just a head cold. Benedryl and saline drops. I think it's something more, but ok.

Ummmmm okay, better call and go back to the doctor. This looks like possible pinkeye. Not a normal cold. Confirmation: Yes we have pinkeye and a head cold. (Supposedly) Eye drops for pinkeye and continue Benedryl for the cold.

YIKES! What happen? This is how I found Jonathon at 5:30a.m. on Monday, really swollen and gunk everywhere from pinkeye. AND now which you can't see, he is soooo stuffed up and having a hard time breathing.

Doctor says to do more breathing treatments. This did not help. Jonathon got 10x worse overnight. Oh and now mommy has pinkeye too.

Spent the morning back at the doctors again. This time my diagnosis was FINALLY confirmed! Sinus Infection and severe sore throat. Stop extra breathing treatments. Get antibiotic and go home and rest. No school. AND continue eye drops.

This is where we have been sleeping. In the living room in the beanbag. Jonathon is able to breathe much better in this position.

Thursday morning, watching "Cars" and feeling a little better today.

Nothing sweeter than watching a baby sleep.

Well this has been a L O N G week for Jonathon and I! We are finally on the road to recovery. His nose is running better so I can get the stuff sucked out for him and he is not having such a hard time breathing. Took a pretty good morning nap,as you see from picture I still put him in the beanbag, did not want to take any chances of him not being able to breathe in crib. Hopefully tonight he will be able to go back to his bed and us back to ours.(The couch is NOT comfy) Less whiny today too, but still refusing to eat. His throat must be soooo sore. So our new diet for now consist of chocolate pudding, tapioca pudding, applesauce, orange jello, and orange yogurt. Right now I have homemade chicken soup cooking and I am hoping he will at least try some tonight. Not sure what we will be doing for lunch. My mac and cheese king is on strike for now. Maybe ICE CREAM!!!!!

Visit to Doctor Saturday and Sunday

This was taken this afternoon
On Friday night around 8:30p.m. Jonathon started stirring in the crib and snoring and breathing hard. So I knew something was up. Saturday morning I had to take his older brother Andrew in to see the doctor for back pain so I decided to take Jonathon along for a quick look. Found out Andrew pulled a muscle and will be better in a couple of days. Dr. looked at Jonathon real quick for me and said he has a cold. (Benedryl and saline). Good news.

Saturday afternoon I noticed his eyes were running and really watery. So I kept a close eye on him. By Saturday evening he had gunk coming out of corner and bottom of his eyes. Started thinking something was up and this is not normal for a cold. Put him to bed last night and he slept better, but still not himself.

This morning when Jonathon and I got up at 6:20a.m. we went and used the potty like we always do. Didn't notice at first because I only turn on a dim light in the bathroom in the morning(he does not like bright light), but we were playing with the duckies(while waiting to pee/poop) and he looked up at me AND oh my his eyelashes were all caked up with gunk.(reminded me of my kittens growing up)Poor poor baby. We have never experienced this. One eye was worse than the other, but close enough. We finished up in the potty and ventured out to the kitchen to get some warm water and get cleaned up. Afterwards I noticed that they just continued to run and gunk coming out so much that I called the Dr. at 8:30a.m. Told them I think Jonathon has pink eye. They told us to come right in and yes it was confirmed he has pink eye. Dr. was totally amazed He said"Wow I just seen you yesterday morning and he was fine" Thank goodness I am so in tune with Jonathon and know when something is up. So he is on eye drops for 3x day 2 drops per eye for 5 days. Definitely staying home Tuesday from school, we will play it by ear for Thursday.

Overall besides being a little tired, he is still in pretty good spirits and still being a big boy using the potty for me!!!!
