Jonathon went bowling on Sunday. All was fine.
Jonathon went to school on Monday. All was fine.
Swimming was cancelled on Monday again! Swim teacher now sick.
Tuesday...Jonathon woke up with a temp. Only 100.1 but still a temp. He stayed home.
Wednesday Jonathon went back to school. All not fine.
He does not have a temp. He sounds like he has a cold. He keeps grabbing his nose and squishing it. When he does this the sides get stuck in and then pop out. He sounds really congested.
I put him in the shower tonight and after we got out he was able to blow his nose and get the gunk out.
Now.....here is my thinking...
Did Jonathon possibly finally lose his ear tubes? He just got over a Sinus infection too. Sinus infections and sick all the time is the reason he has tubes.
So I am trying to keep him as healthy as I can until Friday. Friday is his ENT appointment. I am kind of hoping those tubes are missing, then I will at least know why all of a sudden he is getting sick.

We are learning a new game at our house!

Bowling
We were supposed to go bowling today as a family with the St. Clair County Down Syndrome Support Group.
That didn't happen.
Gilbert got hurt before we left. He was in the bathroom shaving and turned wrong and threw his back out. So I left Andrew home with him.
Jonathon, Kenny and I still went bowling.
Jonathon had a lot of fun. He loves to go bowling. I was really happy with the way he behaved today too. He sat in the chair at the table with Kenny and waited his turn. I only had to talk to him twice. Twice for 2 hours. That's pretty amazing.
Kenny did not bowl because he is having foot surgery soon and just cannot do anything right now. He went along for moral support and to be my photographer. He needs a little help in the picture taking department though.....Oh well. At least he tried.
I had fun and the boys had fun....that's all that matters to me.
We had pop, pizza and ice cream. Good way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Chiropractic Care
Jonathon went to the chiropractor for himself today.
I was and am still nervous about this. He is only 4 years old. Is this something I should continue.
Don't get me wrong....I am very comfortable with our chiropractor. I am very pleased with the results that I have received and I am very happy that I decided to take Andrew and Kenny. I do believe chiropractic care is good.
My husband asked me tonight why I decided to take Jonathon.. I explained to him that I thought it was time. I also reminded him of how I used to have migraines all the time...how I used to just lie on the floor in so much back pain. How I do not have migraines any more....now I have an occasional headache and I usually can pin point why. And how I don't complain how bad my back hurts. Because my back doesn't hurt like that anymore. I will never forget the day I leaned back to get my hair washed and I thought I was going to die...The pain was so bad.
I can remember all the school Andrew used to miss. How my son used to be in so much pain he couldn't get out of bed. Andrew does not miss school anymore.
Kenny....Kenny used to miss so much school because of bad headaches....headaches that I actually thought were migraines like mine. Kenny has not missed any school this year so far because of a headache. Kenny does not get headaches anymore.
So you tell me...Is the chiropractor helping all of us or not?
I guess I am trying to avoid all this later in life with Jonathon. If I can get him the help now why not?
So we will take one appointment at a time and see where it goes.
Today was good. He knew exactly what to expect and what to do.. He has been watching his brothers and mom for almost 1 year now. I am glad that he was not frightened. I am glad that he is comfortable with Dr. Harris.

Chiropractor?
Andrew is 17 and has had some back pain for sometime. Last year he kept missing school and I kept taking him back to the pediatrician. Dr. Pediatrician would tell me to give him Ibuprofen.
I finally had given up. I didn't know what to do and then one morning Jonathon's teacher had asked me if I had ever thought about seeing a chiropractor. Um, no I hadn't. I had seen one when I was a teenager after an automobile accident, but I never felt comfortable with him. I was always afraid he was going to break my neck. I just hated the whole idea....not that he was bad. He was a very good chiropractor and he did help me. She gave me the name of her chiropractor and I decided to call him and set up an appointment for Andrew. I needed to do something for the child.
I took Andrew last March 20ll and he is still seeing our new chiropractor. He has done amazing things for Andrew. Andrew has not missed school in a very long time. Andrew is learning how to have better posture, and what to do so he does not end up hurting himself. He still has a way to go before he is finished going every 2 weeks, but when he started he was going 2x week and then 1x week.
Then Kenny started complaining that he had pain and I took him. Yes Kenny had some issues too and has been seeing Dr. Chiropractor since around May 2011. Kenny has not missed any school and what I have noticed about Kenny is that he is not having bad headaches anymore. Kenny used to miss alot of school because of his headaches.
So then last summer I went into the hair salon for a haircut and color. When I was told to lie back in the sink to get my hair washed I thought I was going to die. Something was wrong, it hurt so bad in my neck and in my back that I could barely tolerate it. I thought I was going to have to tell the hair dresser, but then I was embarrassed...who cannot lie back and get a hair wash so I stuck it out. But it scared me. What the heck did I do.
When I went to an appointment with Andrew and Kenny I spoke with the Dr. Chiropractor about me. He said to set up an appointment. I let him know my fear of chiropractors, but also that I was pretty comfortable. I would not let my boys continue if I wasn't and he was indeed helping them.
I have been going to the chiropractor since last summer. My 2 teens and I go every 2 weeks. Eventually we will not have to go as much. But I am so relieved that we found this chiropractor. He is amazing. He has already taught us and helped us so much. And I can lie back at the hair dresser now...pain free.
Now since last summer I have seen young children come and go. Heard stories about young children. Seen pictures hanging how a chiropractor can see what the average person misses. And have always thought in the back of my head...."I wonder if I should let Jonathon see the Dr." "Would he benefit from it" "Does it really matter at this age"
I have and will always want and do what is best for Jonathon. When we went on Wednesday I was reminded one more time that Feb is Kids month. Get your child signed up. When we were finished Dr. Chiropractic spoke with me about Jonathon. He asked me some questions and told me that there was a video out front if I wanted to watch it. I watched the video with the boys before we left. They went out to the van and I spoke with the receptionist. I signed Jonathon up. He goes tomorrow morning for his first appointment.
While I am nervous, I am also excited. What will this do for Jonathon. Or maybe we will find out this won't work for Jonathon. We will know more tomorrow.
When I got out to the van...Andrew says...."If I were you I would do it" "I think you need to take Jonathon" I asked him why? He said"I wish I would have went at a younger age. I wouldn't be messed up like I am." I think big brother is looking out for little brother. I then told him. He will. I signed him up.

Mid Winter Break
Our school was cancelled on Thursday because of icy roads and Friday is the start of our mid winter break. The boys will be off of school until Tuesday.
Jonathon is finally feeling better and pretty much back to his old self. We have been staying home still. Today we cleaned up in the morning. Then I talked Jonathon into letting me give him a much needed hair cut. He did great sitting for me and he won a movie from being a good boy. He picked Fantastic 4.
After the movie we made chicken nuggets, home made french fries and mac and cheese. Of course he just ate mac and cheese and applesauce. But big brother Kenny was very happy to get chicken nuggets and home made fries.
After lunch we took a much needed nap....well I think so because I am still exhausted. I think once spring gets here and we can get out side I will feel a lot better.
After nap, we got Kenny to come back upstairs and after snack Kenny and Jonathon did Dentist playdoh. They played for about 45 minutes. I love sitting back and watching Jonathon interact with his older brother and how Kenny teaches him how to use his imagination. They ended up making a monster out of playdoh and taking the drill and drilling the monster so his teeth fell out. Lots of fun.
Jonathon loves his brothers.
So we will find some more fun stuff to do inside while we wait for Jonathon to get better.
Swimming on Monday.....I hope.

Finally on the Mend
Jonathon came down with a cold on Feb 4 and by Feb 11th he had gotten worse.
He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a sinus infection and put on amoxicillin. His poor head....his poor nose....he just couldn't breathe and his nose was running goop non stop. By Monday I was a little irritated and called the dr. back thinking maybe he was immune to amoxicillin and needed something different like the zpac. The nurse spoke with the dr. and I was told to stick it out a few more days. ok. irritated but o.k.
So on Monday I let him watch movies and tried to keep him down and quiet. He napped for a long time and then went to bed later than usual. And of course was still up by 5:30a.m. Why this child is on the new time change is beyond me! I literally hate mornings now. I get up and take him back to his bed. Tuck him in. Grab a blanket and climb in with him and pull the cord on his blue puppy that plays a lullaby and try to get him back to sleep. Of course this usually does not work and mommy is the one almost asleep when I get a "mom" very quiet and a tap on the head or side of the face. I say "What?" he says "up?" No! And we go through this until 6:30a.m. when I finally let him up and our day starts and I am EXHAUSTED!!!!!
I let him stay home again today hoping that it would be a better day. And it was. I didn't have to touch his nose until tonight at bedtime, but that was a false alarm. It is finally drying up and he is finally breathing better. Now tomorrow he has an eye check up appt so I am going to keep him home from school again. I might just keep him home all week because Thursday is his last day. I want him to heal and not turn around and come down with something else. Today we watched Shrek and Incredibles and of course Fast and Furious.....well because he loves cars! He ate a little better today and seemed happier.
I am glad he is on the mend.

Sick
Jonathon has been wonderful so far this winter. Just a runny nose a couple of times. Not this time. It started last Saturday with a runny nose. Figured he caught something from being out in the weather for Grandpa's funeral so I put him on Benedryl. Last night it became worse and by this morning at 5a.m. the boy was blowing his nose(hooray he can actually blow his nose) non stop. Like 30 Kleenex by 6:30a.m. so off to the dr. we went at 11a.m.
Congested, drainage, sinus.....on amoxicillin...Good news is that his lungs are clear. So....
Have to cancel swimming again this week.....oh well
I hope after one dose of amoxicillin he sleeps better tonight because mommy is T i r e d ! ! ! and would love to sleep past 3a.m.

Listening
My dearest child....When I ask you to pick up your toys....could you do it instead of me asking you 40 more times....
My dearest child....Could you get up and get ready for bed when I ask you the first time instead of 40 more times....
My dearest child.....I took your t.v. out of your room because you were not listening to me.....
My dearest child....When you learn to listen....you will get your t.v. back...
My dearest child....When I say put your coat on to go to school....could you just go out to the kitchen and do it....
Overall you have been somewhat better after 2 weeks of no t.v.
Thank you for trying.....
But when you scream at me in the grocery store....you once again will not get any t.v. time....or pizza....or taco bell....or McDonalds.....and no....no trip to the movie store.
We will keep trying....I know you will get it!
I love you

Naps
are getting shorter and shorter everyday....Jonathon has been waking up at 5:15a.m. for quite some time now. I won't let him get up until 6:30a.m. though. I believe he is on the time change already. A little early my son......
And then he seems a little tired so I attempt to get him to take a nap. It takes a little longer than normal for him to fall asleep..around 30 minutes to an hour where it used to be 5 minutes. And then when he is snoring away and I sneak out....I get about 30 minutes and he is back......
I think naps will be done soon.
Which is okay, he is really a good boy and plays quietly...I just feel bad when he gets up so early...I think he needs rest, but then when he is tapping on me at 5a.m. oh I just want to sleep! And then mommy needs a nap!

Happy birthday to me
Today was mostly like any other day except for the fact that it's my birthday. 43 today. Wow....I remember telling my mom and dad that 40 was sooo old. Goodness, was I naive or what?
Every year as I get older I find it harder and harder to believe that I am actually "that" old. I don't feel old...."that" old. I can't believe that I have a 17 year old child. And a 15 year old child. My teenagers have grown up so quick. And I am so proud of them. And holy moly.....I have a 4 year old.
Jonathon keeps me young!
My boys were good to me today. They made sure the kitchen was clean before they headed out to school. They did errands after school for me. (very nice having an extra driver in the house) And they actually just kinda sat around and chatted with me before dinner instead of just coming in and heading off to do homework. That was nice. That's all I needed.
We ate dinner and then I opened up a couple of presents. A Coca Cola from Gilbert....because I can't live without my Coca Cola. (thanks hubby). The boys got me a snuggle blanket. That will be nice when I am relaxing watching t.v.(I am always freezing).
Kenny is going to take me out shopping this weekend. That should be fun.
And my sis and her hubby(Carol-Ann and Dave) with new puppy Scarlett stopped by really quick to drop off something for Kenny. I got a nice cake sheet with a cover and some Spearmint life savers(my new addiction after giving up cigerettes)from them. Thanks sis! I love it.
Scarlett is so cute. And so big already. Tiny met her really quick because they couldn't stay, we will get the dogs together another day.
So pretty much just another day around here...except for it was my birthday!

Swimming Cancelled
again! Very frustrating....I was really hoping that Jonathon would be able to swim all winter. He has been doing an amazing job learning and he loves to learn and listen to Miss Maggie. He just loves the water.....
First half of winter swimming was cancelled because of various reasons...Then Miss Maggie had swimming with a different child and then Miss Maggie had her own plans and we couldn't swim. Today was our first day back.....so we thought.
Jonathon came down with a runny nose this weekend. I don't know if its from all the misc. doctor appointments he has been to lately for his older brothers or from the damp weather on Friday when we had grandpa's funeral. I thought about letting him go, but then decided not too.
He loves to swim and I am sad that he missed, but I don't want him swimming in a public pool with a cold. I would hope the other parents do the same. And I don't want his cold getting worse because I let him swim....
Maybe next week we will be able to go swimming.....

Happy Heart Day!
My boys and I went to the movies today. We took Jonathon to see Alvin and the Chipmunks...Shipwrecked this morning.
Waiting for movie to start
Brotherly Love
After the movies we stopped off and picked up a cake and balloons for Jonathon.
Loves to get balloons
When we got home we made soup and sandwiches for lunch. Then we turned on the radio and listened to music while we all hung out together and played with Jonathon. We had dinosaurs, and army guys, and imaginext castles. It was a very nice lazy afternoon.
Later on in the afternoon we decided to watch Gnomeo and Juliet with Jonathon. While the boys watched the movie I made an easy dinner....eggs, sausage, toast and pancakes..
After Gnomeo and Juliet finished, we hurried and fed the animals and then got out the cake to celebrate some more!

Happy Heart Day my son....I am so grateful that 4 years ago we were able to have your asd/vsd corrected. I am so thankful each and everyday that you are healthy and that your heart is doing great.
Atrial septal defect (ASD) repair......The atrial septum is the wall between the left and right atria of the heart. There is a natural opening before birth and this usually closes on its own when a baby is born, but when it doesn't the baby/child has an ASD.
So you had open heart surgery...OHS to correct this. The dr. used stitches to close the hole.
Ventricular septal defect (VSD) repair......The ventricular septum is the wall between the left and right ventricles of the heart. A hole in the ventricular septum is called a VSD.
Sometimes these holes close on their own after time, but yours did not. You had open heart surgery to have this corrected. Dr. put a gortex patch on you. (the material that is used to make wet suits for scuba divers)

Peace
Today was Grandpa Stones memorial. Finally. He passed away on Jan 3, 2011. And so much had to be done to get him from Florida to Michigan. But today Family and Friends gathered for a few hours and we all said our "Goodbye".
I promise to take good care of your Tiny dog grandpa! She will be loved and always have a home with us.
I believe that Jonathon and her will become the best of friends!
I love you grandpa and will miss you dearly.....

I believe that Jonathon and her will become the best of friends!
I love you grandpa and will miss you dearly.....
