ALLERGIES!!!
This is our new symptom that we will be dealing with for about 2 months. Jonathon started last Wednesday afternoon with a runny nose. I was blaming myself for opening the sunroof on a trip down to the city.
I started him on Benedryl Thursday evening and by this morning he was not getting any better so I decided that we would skip school and head out to the doctors. After waiting for over 1 hour to be seen we found out that Jonathon has allergies ~ just like his big brother Andrew ~ Andrew is on Fluticasone and prescription Claritin (Loratadine)~ Jonathon is on Fluticasone and prescription Claritin(Loratadine)........Ummmm I see a trend developing.
I am extremely glad that it's allergies and he is not sick though.
He will take the meds for about 2 months and Andrew has already started his allergy medicine early this year, I took him a few weeks ago.
Thank you Spring........

World Down Syndrome Day
This is our 3rd celebration of World Down Syndrome Day.
And what a celebration it is to be able to celebrate that I have a child with an extra chromosome who has been through OHS at 5 months of age and survived ~ who has been through adenoid and tubal(ear) surgery and survived ~ who contracted asthma after being seriously ill in 09 and hasn't had one attack this winter ~ who has learned to walk ~ who happens to be 95% potty trained ~ who has graduated out of P.T. ~ who has graduated out of O.T. ~ who has learned sign language to communicate ~ who has started speaking really well over the past couple of months ~ who really understands and wants to learn more and more every day ~ who has started ECDD(preschool) at the age of 2.5yrs and is doing excellent ~
I am so proud of you Jonathon and very honored to be your mommy!

Outside Sunshine
Got up to 66 degrees today and it was very sunny. So Jonathon and I packed up this morning and went and picked up my sister who is now Jonathon's godmother - not legally yet - but we will get to that soon enough.
We went to our local Kroger and did our grocery shopping together. Then we went back to her house to have lunch with Jonathon. He was being very funny and kept turning on her big screen T.V. ~ she was very surprised that he knew how ~ all he has to do is see someone do it once and he will remember. Lets just say her big screen is not Jonathon proof like mine is. My screen is plastic. But he behaved, and then we headed off for a walk down to her local park.

Busy Busy Busy
Happy St. Patricks Day! I grew up thinking that I was Irish only to find out a few years ago that we are not Irish....... We lived in a town full of Irish patrons so my mom and dad decided to say "We are Irish" Silly parents I have! But we still celebrate like we are!
Jonathon has had a very busy week so far. Monday evening we went out to our St. Clair County Down Syndrome Support Group Meeting. A Few families showed up. We ate pizza, fruit, and cookies along with pop and got to sit down and visit with some other families while some of the children went outside to play. Jonathon spent his time keeping daddy busy running back and forth through out the house we were in. He did pretty well over all. Hopefully next month will be warmer so he can also go out and play.
Tuesday evening Kenny had a meeting at school about the Honor Society Trip coming up in May. Needless to say Jonathon spent the whole 30 minutes talking non stop kinda loud "out loud" At least the other parents thought he was cute.
He has been getting to bed close to 9p.m. when he use to go to bed at 7:30p.m. At least he is not grumpy during the day. Hopefully we can get a handle on this time change soon.
School is going very well for Jonathon. Teacher says that he is still trying to shove food in his mouth and needs to be reminded to eat just one bite at a time. I need to figure out how to get a handle on this. This is a big problem at home too.
Circle Time : He helped count the number of objects(green trains, boats, and buses) in their counting box. He was encouraged to put one in at a time while the teacher counted and with minimal prompts he did a great job!
He has to be reminded to stay seated during circle time, but continues to improve each week.
Jonathon had a good day. The other students look out for him. They interact more with him than he does with them. He will look at them and then go back to what he is doing/playing.
Good report from teacher!

Long Overdue
Growing up, my family and I went to church every Sunday. My sister, brother and I went to Sunday School classes after church. When I was in 2nd grade I made my first communion. When I was in 8th grade I was confirmed. My parents did not make us go after that. And once we entered high school we did not go to Sunday school any longer, but we did continue to go to church every Sunday as a family.
When I got married to Gilbert we continued going to church every Sunday. Then something happened in my life and I quit going. My father got into a terrible automobile accident and died. The worst part was that he had just left my house. I was devastated. I loved my father very much and he had told me that day that he was proud of me and accepted Gilbert. I was very angry with God for taking my father away so I quit going to church.
When our first son was born we went back to church. I wanted my child to be baptized. I wanted my child to grow up and learn about everything I had learned about in church. I wanted him to make his first communion and be confirmed. I didn't go every Sunday, but I did go once in awhile.
Then our second son was born and once again I felt all the emotions of not being a good christian and said once again we need to go church faithfully. I want both my boys to go to church. So I started going with Andrew and Kenny. Gilbert went a few times, but wouldn't go with me and the boys. I felt like everyone was staring and whispering "there is Christine with her boys" "wonder where Gilbert is" " wonder if they are having problems" "how sad her husband is not with her" so I quit again......
And now onto 2007 I have given birth to another boy. And this boy has an extra chromosome. And this boy needs all the love and support any person could ever need and more. And again I said we need to get Jonathon baptized as soon as possible. We need to go to church. All my boys need to go to church. So I called to schedule a baptism and was truly hurt to have my church and Gilbert's church tell me that Jonathon could not be baptized for over 1 year. We had quit going to church so they wouldn't baptize Jonathon. So we pretty much left the Catholic church.
I called a Lutheran church and they welcomed us with open arms. Jonathon was baptized at 2 months old. We appointed god parents that we felt would be there for Jonathon no matter what.
And once again I went to church with Jonathon. Andrew and Kenny did not want to go. It hurt me, but I did not make them go. Gilbert would not go. So Jonathon and I went and then I went right back into the past of people talking, pointing fingers and I stopped. Which is really weird because I normally am not like that, I could pretty much careless what anyone says or thinks about me......Church is different. And I like going to church, I really feel I am a better person when I go to church and can handle my life better.
Fast forward to recently. Jonathon needs to find a new godmother. His godmother has not lived up to her name at all. I have tried and tried to resolve whatever the problem is and she won't budge. The last time she spent any quality time with Jonathon was before his first Christmas so he was about 4 months old. The last time he seen his godmother was Jan 2, 2009. When I try to include her, she has an excuse everytime. Soo, sorry, but I am done.
I called the Lutheran church where Jonathon was baptized(new pastor now) and explained my situation. He came out and met my whole family last Tuesday. Now Kenny already goes to this church on occassion when he stays at his friends house. I found out that he is already in the confirmation class and may come back and be a regular student. Andrew is already 9th grade so I believe he can study at home and then still be able to also be confirmed. And Kenny will make his first communion next year too. And Andrew too, I think.
The pastor told me that yes I may appoint a new godmother. And that person is my sister. She is Kenny's godmother already, but I chose her because she has been there for Jonathon and I since day 1. No matter what the situation, small or big, she has been there so who is more deserving than her. No one. And the godfather is her husband.
But first things first. Pastor said that first we must get Jonathon back in church along with the rest of our family.
And here we go again ~ No I will not go down that road again ~ I will be stronger this time around ~ all 3 of my boys need to learn their faith ~ it may take time for the older 2 to adjust seems how I was not a good parent, but I will be this time around ~ and it will take Jonathon less time to adjust, but he still will have to adjust ~
Our first day at church was yesterday ~ Kenny left at 7:45a.m. with the neighbor(his best friend) to go to confirmation class ~ Jonathon and I ate breakfast and got ready to go ~ At 8:50a.m. Jonathon and I left for church ~ We arrived at church to Kenny, Andrew(his best friend), Becky(Andrew's mom - my friend) and her daughter waiting for us. As we sat down, my other friend(neighbor) Ken came up and asked if he could sit with us ~ We were surrounded by friends ~
Mass was over and I seen that more of our friends are members of this church and went and said hello.
Andrew was at a sleep over so I let him miss church, but he understands that next week he needs to attend ~ Gilbert? ~ I don't know ~ he didn't get up ~ he didn't go ~
No matter what I vow that I will not stop! I will continue to go to church for the sake of my 3 boys! I will do anything for them.

Fun in the Snow
Well the snow finally stopped. The rain finally stopped. The wind finally calmed down.
Sooooo we bundled up and ventured outside yesterday morning. Let me just say Jonathon loves it very much and was not too happy when he had to come back in.
Our snow is a very wet snow ~ I thought the big brothers would build him a snowman ~ no they didn't ~ maybe next time.

Sitting in the snow
And lying in the snow
King of the hill with Daddy
"WHOA"
And down again!
We had a great time playing outside and I am glad Jonathon also loves the snow!
